This week, we started on more stuff in 3DS Max, but what also happened this week was a FAILING GRADE for my MoQ Check. This made my heart sink, and my mind throw up, and vice versa. But, later I saw that this was from one small segment of the rubric. This was the portfolio page, which was updated, but didn't have my class projects, since I put my one piece in class on another section. I guess this was my fault, my portfolio is a bit weird. But, the only thing I can really take away from this is, better organize your work, and think of who's viewing. So, this means, I still have a lot of work ahead of me, including current projects in school, oof. The work in progress for the previous work posted, Scarlet

Well, when I first forced myself to draw stuff, I simply saw what something looked like, and drew it. That's the main reason why I started out pixel drawing Crusader Quest stuff, it's a basis for me to draw. Also, I liked Crusader Quest, check it out. But, what I learned from that is that hair is not two dimensional, having layers, and loose ends. This really changed my perspective when I figured it out. When I first made hair, it's a straight line around a head, with some hairline changes. Now, this weekend, I'm applying this to more hair, and stuff. I also applied having structured shoulders, wow. Although, I do struggle with necks, and waists. These little changes are small, rather redundantly. But, these are smaller steps into what I think is a unique style that will form, I hope. This blog is for documenting that gradual change, after all. Ideal GF
This year, Digital Design and Animation is more focused on 3D elements, so we have more of a focus on using individual tools. But, this is also a brand new opportunity to discuss a bit more deeply on various elements. This week, we had to make a romantic evening with the lathe tool. The lathe tool, at it's most basic, makes a copy of a spline(which is a flat shape, in a 3D modelling program) for every degree you tell it to. Which, results in a 3D shape, this tool has applications in any sort of symmetrical shape. Many elements were easily made with the Lathe Tool, since many objects are symmetrical, like candlesticks and plates. But, some objects can't easily be made, like the napkin. The napkin can actually be made by modifying the degrees it turns, resulting in a shape that's not fully "rotated," making for the napkin's folded shape. But, the napkin also needs to be a bit less circular, which is what the side tool, I forgot what it's called, which makes it a bit more shaped. These sort of small options that can drastically change a shape is, what I think, the main point of these projects.
Some activities we do aren't graded, this year. Since these activities are only practice, whether or not we use this time is, practically, up to us. So, we improve and learn a thing or two from both of them. The Lathe Tool is a tool that simplifies many elements for us to make, and thinking of how to use it is totally dependent on us. Yes, they can make or break your presentation or your chances of a job. As I saw in my graded job application, I had all of the elements for the job, except for the portfolio. But, it's mainly due to a lack of a relevant portfolio, most of my art is character design, 3D, or video editing, not UI like I decided to apply to. Also, my portfolio has not been updated for the ENTIRE SUMMER, oops. I kinda forgot I had a portfolio, and I feel a little behind. So, as a sort of new (school) year resolution, I'll be making more digital stuff, or make it at the level of last year's. Oh yeah, I'm back from summer. Well, it's research time, I don't really miss doing these. But, at least it's keeps me busy. Well, we can research the topic given, the first paragraph is first-hand experience, but this is legitimate research. A portfolio, which is work you have collected over your "career," can help with what you've proven you can do. Every company whats a capable employee, a portfolio is the easiest way to communicate your work, which plays into a first impression, which is very important. Portfolios also show what kind of person you are. If you have one piece, you look either inexperienced, or incompetent, neither of which a company wants. Your pieces must also be professionally made, which is hard to do if it's your first job. But, you could also make it more presentable, no odd formatting, inconsistent text, or an ugly color scheme. This shows that you, I don't know, care about how you present yourself. Of course, you need work, which I cannot talk about because I am not an expert, you can check my portfolio to judge that statement. So, what did we learn?
